  4. CAUTION FOR NETWORK USERS:

  6. We have just learned of a serious problem that recent versions of CMFiler
  7. have experienced on a Novell Netware 2.12 network.  When the "Wipe file" 
  8. option on the Shift-O user options menu was set to Yes on this particular 
  9. network, both the target _and_ source files being copied were completely 
  10. obliterated by the wipe overwrite string "cfcfcf..." when copying on the 
  11. network drives.

  13. We have not been able to locate the cause of this problem, nor reproduce
  14. it on the Novell 3.11 we have access to, but are working with the network
  15. administrator to understand the behavior and the possible causes.
  16. We have never observed this anomaly nor has it ever been reported for any
  17. standalone computer or other network, so we do not know whether it is
  18. a bug in CMFiler, a bug in Novell Netware 2.12, or a bug in one of the
  19. other drivers in this particular system configuration.

  21. However, until this destructive behavior is understood and corrected, we
  22. have disabled the feature that wipes the old copies of files in the
  23. target path prior to creating the new copy.

  25. Our sincerest apologies if this has caused any problems on other networks.
  26. If you are a network administrator, please inform us of your experience
  27. with the "Wipe file" feature, positive or negative, and tell us the
  28. brand and version of your network software.
